This is Part 3 of our trip along the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route. The autumn leaves were beautiful.
Daikanbo: A Panoramic Viewpoint
We stopped at Daikanbo (2,316 m) on October 7, 2021. From the rooftop observation deck, you look straight down on Kurobe Lake and across to the jagged peaks of the Northern Alps. Panorama boards help you identify each mountain. The slopes below were covered in red, orange and yellow.

The autumn color line had reached about 2,000 meters.

Kurobedaira
Riding down by ropeway, we reached Kurobedaira (1,828 m). The whole hillside was ablaze with autumn leaves under a clear blue sky.

Kurobe Lake
At the bottom of the mountain lies Kurobe Lake, the reservoir of the Kurobe Dam. Its emerald-green water is surrounded by steep granite cliffs. We found a waterfall pouring down the rocks and crossed a suspension bridge.

We walked along the lakeside trail and across Kanbadani Bridge.

The trail passes a quiet mountain lodge and campsite before returning along the cliffs to Kurobeko Station.
Kurobe Dam
Kurobe Dam is the tallest dam in Japan, 186 meters high. During the tourist season, water is released from the dam in a huge white spray, often with a rainbow in the mist. It is a powerful sight.
