Tateyama Kurobe

絶景

A cirque (curl) found on the northwestern flank of Mt. It is named after the discoverer, Naomasa Yamazaki. Most of the cirques in Japan are found on the eastern slopes of mountain ridges, but this is one of the few found on the west side. It is a natural monument.

A crater lake on the east side of Mikuliga Pond. Standing on the shore, one can see the rocks at the bottom of the water and realize the high degree of transparency. Tateyama is clearly reflected on the calm surface of the water, which is even more beautiful when there is lingering snow and autumn leaves. It is said that ascetic monks used this water to make ink rubbings for sutra copying. There is a walking trail along the edge of the pond, and wetland and alpine plants can be seen in the vicinity, such as the ginkgo biloba and the white-backed woodpecker.
